Services: Overview

Labeled “Kalamazoo’s Go-To Guy” by the Kalamazoo Gazette, Blaine Lam has worn a lot of hats over the past quarter century.  Working with his wife, Bobbie, and a small staff, and focused on the mission to help improve the quality of life in Kalamazoo County, Lam is a communicator and something of a community organizer. Project work has included stakeholder focus groups; staff reorganizations; board restructuring, marketing programs; fundraising; special events management; building construction and other elements of project management.

Lam’s commitments are volunteer and professional, sometimes both, and they range from serving as a “one-hour sounding board” to his 15-year role as the focal point of the community’s transportation issues, serving more than a decade as the Chamber of Commerce’s chair for their Transportation Committee.  He created and headed two coalitions that helped provide funding for the expansions of Gull Road and I-94.  He recruited the Board of Directors, developed the curriculum and directed the first two classes of Leadership Kalamazoo.  He wrote the original Arcadia Creek downtown development plan, and staffed the Arcadia Commons and New Museum campaigns. He introduced Discover Kalamazoo to the Convention & Visitors Bureau. He oversaw the creation of the Kalamazoo Marathon.

Lam & Associates has organized everything from a perfectly scripted, 12-person dinner party to the Kalamazoo Marathon/Borgess Run, with 1,300 volunteers and 8,000 participants.  Lam has created and launched new organizations; has orchestrated community rallies, receptions, roasts and reunions; and has worked with private, public and nonprofit organizations become more strategic and more effective.
